This Privacy Policy explains how simsim SARL ("simsim", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the simsim mobile app and our website at simsim.app (together, the "Service").

simsim is currently a free directory that helps people in Lebanon discover home services and public services. You can browse and search the directory and contact providers directly. There are no user accounts, no bookings, and no payments in the app — so we collect very little about you, and most of what the app stores stays on your device.

If we introduce features such as accounts, bookings, or payments in the future, we will update this policy before those features go live.

1. The Short Version

You don't need an account. We don't ask for your name, a password, or any payment details.
Your favourites, recent searches, chosen area, and location are stored only on your device, not on our servers.
We collect a small amount of anonymous usage data to improve the directory.
When you use AI-powered search, the text you type is sent to Google to interpret your request.
Contacting a provider opens WhatsApp or your phone's dialer — the conversation happens there, not inside simsim.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information stored only on your device

The app keeps the following on your device and does not send it to us:

Listings you save to Favourites
Your recent searches
Your selected area or region
Your location, if you choose to share it (see Section 4)
App settings, such as language

Uninstalling the app or using "Clear local data" in Settings removes this information.

2.2 Anonymous usage data

To understand what people are looking for and improve the directory, we collect limited, anonymous events that are not linked to your identity or a device ID. They include:

Reports you submit about a listing
Searches that returned no results, and "request a service" submissions (so we know what to add)
Taps on a provider's contact button

Some of these events include the text you typed in a search. Please avoid entering sensitive personal information in free-text fields.

2.3 AI search queries

When you use the AI search assistant, the text of your question, your app language, and your active filters are sent to our server and to Google's Gemini AI to interpret your request and return relevant listings. We do not attach your name, an account, or your location to these requests.

2.4 Technical data

Like any internet service, our servers automatically receive your device's IP address when the app or website connects. We use it only transiently, for security and to limit abuse (rate-limiting). We do not use it to build a profile of you.

2.5 Waitlist (website)

If you join our waitlist on simsim.app, we collect the email address you provide so we can notify you about our launch. We use Cloudflare Turnstile to help prevent spam submissions. Our website also uses analytics cookies — see our Cookie Policy.

2.6 What we do NOT collect

To be clear, simsim does not:

Require or collect your name, your email (in the app), or a password
Collect or process any payment, card, or bank information
Collect government IDs or run background checks
Track your location in the background or continuously
Access your contacts
Use advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs

3. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

Operate the directory and show you relevant results
Understand demand and gaps in coverage so we can add providers
Respond to reports and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse
Contact waitlist subscribers about our launch

4. Location

Sharing your location is optional. If you allow it, the app uses your approximate location on your device to sort listings by distance. Your coordinates are not transmitted to our servers. The coverage map shown in the app displays general service regions and does not read your GPS. You can turn location access on or off at any time in your device settings.

We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with advertisers. We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the Service:

Google Firebase / Google Cloud — hosting, anonymous usage data, and the server that powers AI search.
Google Gemini — interprets AI search queries (see Section 2.3).
Google Maps — displays the in-app coverage map.
Cloudflare — hosts our website, stores waitlist emails, and provides spam protection (Turnstile).
WhatsApp and your phone carrier — when you choose to contact a provider, we hand you off to these apps, which have their own privacy policies.

We may also disclose information if required by Lebanese law or to protect the safety and rights of users or the public.

6. About the Listings

Provider and public-service listings in simsim are curated business information compiled and verified by our team. They are not profiles created by users, and they do not contain your personal data. Public-service listings may show a business's public address, opening hours, and phone number so you can reach them.

7. Data Retention

On-device data stays until you clear it or uninstall the app.
Anonymous usage data is retained in aggregate to improve the Service.
Waitlist emails are kept until our launch or until you ask us to remove yours.

8. Your Rights and Choices

On-device data: clear it anytime with "Clear local data" in Settings.
Location and permissions: manage these in your device settings.
Waitlist: ask us to remove your email at any time.
Because the app has no accounts, there is no profile for us to hold or delete. For any privacy request, contact us at the address below.

9. Children's Privacy

simsim is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. International Processing

Our providers (such as Google and Cloudflare) may process and store data on servers outside Lebanon. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be processed in other countries.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as simsim evolves — for example, when we introduce accounts, bookings, or payments. We will revise the "Effective Date" above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or on our website.
